Lena Arstam

IRC at the Lund University, Malmö Academy of Music

WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?
I was born in Malmö and have lived here all my life although I studied at Lund University. I have a degree in Social Sciences, Public Administration and was specialized in Personnel administration. It's far from music area but I also have studied History of Art and when I started at the Academy of Music I took part in courses in Music History and West African Rhythms and Djembe. I am also a yoga instructor.

WHAT IS YOUR PATH TO THE CURRENT POSITION?
In the mid 80-ties Malmö Academy of Music was arranging Swedish Baroque Festival and I was working at the University in Lund at the central administration. I was subbing for someone who returned to his position, I was unemployed and available when I got a call from the Academy of Music, asking if I could help them during the festival. And I have stayed since then in different positions at the Academy. Now as International Coordinator and also Coordinator of the Nordtrad network.

WHAT IS YOUR PASSION IN YOUR JOB?
I love to meet all the international students. It is a long process before I get to see them but to see them is worth the effort. I also find pleasure in helping the outgoing students to realize their dreams and see the change in them after an exchange. I love to travel and meet my colleagues in networks around the world. The international atmosphere is always uplifting.
